DIANA HECHT discovered her artistic ability after moving to St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1990. After years of being a secretary and office manager she discovered her new career in her 40’s as an artist creating jewelry.

She discovered her natural ability with wire sculpting in 1997 when she started playing around with bits of tumbled glass and wire. Her new found passion had her creating pendants, earrings, bracelets and pins. “I found I loved the feel of wire and it was such a joy to discover how the wire would enhance the piece that I was sculpting.” She is a self-taught artist who started with a couple of videos and some books. From there she blossomed, discovering a natural ability which has steadily grown from ‘playing around’ to becoming serious with my work.”

Diana creates her jewelry using dichroic glass, gemstones, minerals, fossils, pottery, pearls and shells using 14kt gold fill and sterling silver. Her special tool is her fingers. “Those fingers handle pliers, jewelry tools and sculpt wire,” states Diana. She has now branched out in crocheted ropes of tiny seed beads, pearls, and stones creating a piece of work that can stand alone or enhance a pendant.
