Susan works mostly in watercolor on her handmade paper, often using mica for a special effect. She feels watercolors have their own rhythm and tempo in creation.
Her paintings, she explains, are not pictures per se, but the expression and excitement of a passing moment.
For certain paintings, Susan chooses acrylic as a medium if she feels it will express the passing moment as she has envisioned it.
Susan has been exhibiting her artwork through art galleries, art fairs, festivals, libraries, universities and government buildings since 1982. She also teaches watercolor and creating handmade papers through various institutions and privately.
She is a member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society, the Jackson County Visual Arts Council, Dogwood Crafters (one of the Southeast's finest craft co-ops) and is a registered artist with Handmade in America.
