After graduating from high school, she studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. Most of her abilities and techniques have been self-taught, and have evolved over years of production and creation collaborating with her husband, Esi.
Esi studied Fine Art at Tehran University and at Lancaster and Cyprus Colleges in California. He greatly enjoys the medium of clay, working with my hands to create one-of-a-kind, three dimensional forms. He also enjoys experimenting with textures and surface treatments.
The Ostovar's unique sculptures have brightened the homes and lives of many enthusiastic fans and customers for over 36 years. Terry & Esi's original hand formed high-fired porcelain and stoneware animal sculptures and wall plaques are inspired by nature. they are smoothed, shaped and textured completely by hand, using tools that are found, bought or fashioned by the artists. To finish the entire process their designs are bisque fired, brush-glazed, stained or left natural, then fired again at cone 6.
Their studio in the woods, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, has been a part of their home for nearly 20 years. They are members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and one of their sculptures is in Lark Books '500' Series: 500 Animals in Clay.
